Charles and Esther Mully with Charles and Susanne VanDrunen

Dear Friends and Family,
Susanne and I have returned from Kenya, Africa,. Some of you have requested stories. I feel very blessed to have spent time with Charles Mulli, a native Kenyan who has given so much for the young people and local communities in his country.
I have many stories to tell, here is one about a second residential property.
Yatta is the home of about 300 girls and 24 young men. The 300 girls, some with children, have all been rescued from prostitution in the cities; the trusted young men are brotherly protection. The girls receive an education through grade 12 plus vocational training, are fed 3 meals a day and have a 2 hour chapel each evening. The young men were constructing several buildings; all the young men have been trained as carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers or welders.
We were surprised to see a pond at the edge of the property, in no other place had we seen this. Charles then told us an amazing story. In 2001, he bought the 220 acres for Yatta. The relator did his best to keep Charles from this edge of the property, explaining that that part was worthless. After purchasing the property, Charles hired a man with a small tractor to do some excavating. Today a pond 100 yards long 30 yards wide and 25 feet deep exists, 4 smaller retention ponds terraced in the side of the hill above are being stocked with fingerling Talapia. In 10 weeks the first fish will be harvested to feed the children; eventually, there will be 13 fish ponds. The fish will feed the children, the community, and be processed for sale in Nairobi and elsewhere. A quarter mile away, a building for 500 chickens is being built to produce eggs and meat for the people. The processed chicken droppings will be utilized as fish food, The ponds can be drained from time to time to harvest fish emulsion, an excellent fertilizer.
All this from a worthless, mucky, clay filled ravine others saw as valueless.
Learning to look with God's eyes,
Charlie
